(Miami, Florida)Yes people the big Best of the Best Memorial Day Concert put on by Jabba from Massive B was a success this as thousands of people crammed into the Biccentinal Park Venue to watch some of the top Dancehall & Reggae artists perform live. Although big name acts like the general Bounty Killer and the gully god Mavado weren't in attendance Dancehall fans still got a good show as people like Assassin who did an electrifying set reeling off singles from his still growing catalog. Other acts like Serani, Demarco, Bugle and Bling Dawg represented well.
The Gargamel Buju Banton gave a strong performance as he took to stage minutes pass 8PM while Sizzla Kalonji got the Caribbean flags signaling as a show of appreciation by the fans. Decked in a full white suit Dancehall crossover champ Jr. Reid not only went off on stage but had people backstage wondering what was on his mind when he disrespect Buju in front of the international media "tell you more about that later".
The low point of the night would have to be the horrible attitude self proclaimed King of the Dancehall Beenie Man displayed on stage. Assumptions are that he was alloted a 30 minutes set but was only allowed to perform 15 which resulted in the sound system, mic and lights being turned off on him after which he was escorted off stage. He also shocks the massive crowd when he bravely announced that he would be representing for the Alliance as Mavado & Bounty were unable to and went straight into performing Mavado's I'm on the Rock single.
At this point the crowd began to fizzle and even thought host of the night Jabba pleaded which the crowd to stay many continued to the gate. The veteran Dancehall bad man Super Cat only proved to be ok in the wee hours of the night a move many though was reckless on the part of the promoters. "Super Cat can't lock show" one person was overheard saying.
All in all the show still was a good look, Tarrus Riley got probably the biggest forward of the day for his She's Royal entrance and Etana took the Best Dressed Female artist of the night looking like a true black empress.
