A moment in time left me in awe, after today, any show that I attend have the bar set so high. TIMELESS is how I describe the man with the velvet voice.
WorldFlavas Team (Abi, Michelle and Malaika) attended the concert at the Westchester County center. We were privileged to be escorted by recording artist Jason Lyrics (myspace.com/jasonlyricsmusic) and to say the least we were very pleased. The venue itself was perfect, the promoters obviously put a lot of thought in location. The weather was of mini hurricane proportion, ok maybe not hurricane, but the rain and wind could not even come close to put a damper or keep patrons away.
The MC for the evening was the always dapper Richie B dressed in all black with a red tie he commanded the crowds attention with his deep voice. Ruff Stuff Band opened the show with Marcia Griffiths,

the crowd obviously love this lady who once backed up the icon of reggae Bob Marley. Marcia was part of I Threes alongside Rita Marley and Judy Mowatt. She looked amazing, I won't even dare ask of her age, as this timeless beauty was fierce and her red FIRE dress. I have to admit that from time to time she looked a little annoyed as the band was at times off. Ruff Stuff Band is a great band, so maybe it was one of those nights. She belted her tunes and surprised the crowd after her performance of "All my love" to announce that the very handsome man singing with her was her son! Of course she closed the set with the most played songs at parties, weddings and even bar mitzah "The electric slide". She called on the crowd for 3 men and 3 women, the ladies rushed the stage and 6 were picked, the men needed to be "begged" more to the crowds laughter. 3 brave gentleman hit the stage and the party started. The electric slide was on stage, in the isles, even the media put their cameras and videos down to dance. Marcia Griffiths shows no signs of slowing down, her show was and will always be THE BEST!!
The promoter David "Squeeze" Annakie came on to address the crowd, besides thanking everyone for braving the weather, he asked for patrons to remember not to smoke as the fire chief was present. He then passed the mic to Richie B who introduced the funniest comedian that I have heard in a long time. "Freddie Rigs" made us laugh so much with his tales of Caribbean stereotype, thanks Freddie you are too funny!
Leon of "Waiting to exhale, The temptations and Cool runnings" to name a few, hit the stage and belted a tune to introduce the man himself BERES HAMMOND.
First thing I noticed was a most amazing smile, wow, it was instantly contageous and memories came flooding back to me, as each of his songs reminded me of a 'Moment in Time", and yes I understood the meaning of his Tour. On a side note, Abi told me that the first cd she ever bought when she got her first player was "Beres", so for all in the crowd, young, old, men and women singing along word for word, this was the ultimate.
I was trying to think of which song I screamed the most for, it's a toss between "No disrespect" and "Tempted to touch", and by the way, every single time Beres said 'HUSH", the crowd went into a frenzy. I remember asking Jason Lyrics who would he like to do a duet with and 'Beres" was his only answer, so I knew that for him also this was a "Moment in time"
WorldFlavas Team walked out as "Rockaway", the song who truly captured my feeling of the night. Thank you Jamrock, Thank you Squeeze, Thank you Beres for a wonderful evening.
