malaika.jpg Greetings Malaika,

I have a problem with money, well not me but my man. We both work very hard and are saving money to move in together. We have been together 4 years, we both live with our families and decided this summer to move in for January 1st and start a new year together. My problem is that I make a lot more money than him and we decided to share everything half way, the rent, food and utilities, everything was going good until this week when he was laid off.

He has saved money and I know he will have no problem finding another job but he now says that he should pay only 1 third and not half because he makes a lot less than me. I am a little upset because it is not my fault if I make more money, so why should i pay more, we already said half, and so now he is upset cause I don't agree and I am upset for him to ask me that. What should I do? January is in 3 months and we found a place, should i move in? Should I pay more? Please help.

PulseCMSModels.JPG(Kingston, Jamaica)

Merely wishing to be the Caribbean's next supermodel is not good enough, models in training in Pulse's Caribbean Model Search must live, breathe, sleep fashion as the competition never ends. With the promise of a Pulse modeling contract valued at over J$200,000 plus the opportunity  to launch an international career, the stars of the popular hit television series Caribbean Model Search (CMS) are challenged to be fierce, assertive and competitive. To win, the girls know that they have reach for heights beyond their own imagination as facing elimination is not an option. In fact, the judges are wasting little time as begin to cut in doubles and triples as they seek to engage only the very best in the final 'face-off'.

Fans bid farewell and adieu to six more model wannabe's on last week's episode of the TV series - leaving sixteen to continue on the road to becoming the region's next supermodel. Kimberlee Edwards, Noviea Douglas, Tania Francis, Roshelle McKinley, Tiffany Thompson and Toni Watson failed to impress and were sent home by CMS judges Pulse CEO, Kingsley Cooper and Pulse GM Romae Gordon.

Vybz kartel, Pure Garbage !

vkartel.jpg

There is no question that Vybz Kartel is talented and lyrical but his latest song " Say weh yu feel fi say " trying to take on the entire alliance and even taking a cheap shot at Ms Sharon Burke of Solid Agency is pure garbage and very tasteless. This song shows how desperate an artist will get just to keep his name in the mouth of the public, but Vybz kartel and other desperate artist craving the limelight should know that John Public is no fool and people are tired of the trash they are releasing from their make shift studios.

Alot of senseless lyrical battles have stem mainly from jealousy, ego and the need to be " The big man " number one. There is a line to be drawn with certain things said on a record and in real life. An artist will say anything without thinking of the consequences or impact his words may have on his career and with the public. Vybz Kartel has done some great songs but this latest effort which obviously someone told him was a hit is straight nonsense and Vybz Kartel I know you will read this article, Yute you need to take some time, look into yourself, cause you are smarter than alot of artist, Check yourself and Stop the F**Kry. People want change, Your hype has drastically declined within the last two years and if you plan to be a fixture in the business, The quality of your work needs to be way better. Just like your song, Mi a say weh mi feel fi say.

Exile Pic.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

Known to friends as Nago 25 year old Clayton Johnson better known as Exile was born and raised in Naggo's Head, Portmore and has managed to create his own mark on the music business in only a short space of time.

The former Camperdown High School student just won't stop working on his musical craft. After leaving high school in 1999, he started exploring his talent and started to rap as the hip hop genre took a big step in the Jamaican culture. Since then his talent has grown into different styles and technique. Having recently graduated from the University Of Technology in Jamaica he has drawn more closer to Jamaica's own reggae dancehall music, which was the first music he had come to know.

Bringing across the same sharp lyrics and melodies from hip hop and transforming them in Jamaican Creole (patios). He is now a reggae dancehall artist on the underground scene and planning to see the top with his latest hot singles such as (CLIMAX, COMING HOME SOON, CONTRACT, RUN UP AND DOWN) with all these songs has story telling to match any situation, he writes songs for whatever stages life can take one through. For the years to come the music industry and the world will see more from this raw talent, a diamond in the dust, he's a force to recon with.

CHICAGO - Police searching for Jennifer Hudson's missing 7-year-old nephew found the body of a young boy Monday in the same SUV that was the part of the massive manhunt.

Authorities didn't identify the body of a young black boy found in the SUV Monday. But police Cmdr. Wayne Gulliford said the license plate on the SUV found Monday matched the one sought in an Amber Alert issued after the singer's mother and brother were found shot to death at home Friday.

Julian King, 7, hasn't been seen since the killings. He lives in the home where the shootings took place.

What went wrong with the Mavado and Buju show at the Ritz?

the ritz.jpgI was looking forward to the Mavado and Buju Banton show at the Ritz. It was very exciting to have Reggae come to such a glamorous venue. Originally built in 1865 as the Drake Opera House, the theatre was purchased in 1925 by Jacob Fabian, who hired architect Fred Wesley Wentworth to turn the opera house into an entertainment showcase known thereafter as The Ritz.

Where did it all go wrong? The promoters of the event G-City and Roadblock Radio dropped the ball. The event was not organized at all, chaos backstage and a poor audio sound system. I just have to say that Mavado and Buju gave Elizabeth, New Jersey a great performance, if for any reason that they kept very professional when the feedback was screeching, or when the microphone shut off more than once on each set.

tattoo.jpg So much controversy over this tattoo, well for those of you who are not familiar with the story, here goes, last week both Mavado and Kartel lyrically clashed at 'Champions in Action".

In one of the lyrics, Mavado said that Jeffrey Hype has a tattoo of Kartel name on his neck. In the song Mavado says "a dats why Jeffrey Hype tattoo yuh name pon him neck wid cherry". "Gangsta a gangsta when yuh see gangsta, yuh know gangsta. When yuh see freak yuh know freak, when yuh see bwoy weh tattoo up and full a tattoo pon neck, dem a freak".

So, after all this drama does he have a tattoo of Kartel name? No, actually the tattoo says "Donna", but he does have Kartel face tattooed on his arm, mmmm,  According to him "
Mi woman name, 'Donna', tattoo on mi neck wid a big heart, Donna far different from Kartel," "Kartel a my general, my dads ... my god, different from di Almighty ... Mi come from nowhere and di man tun mi inna di biggest ting ... Dere is nuting on Earth dat he (Kartel) can do an hurt mi fi mi fi give him bad face. Dats why Mavado a carry bad feelings,"

It seems that when Mavado and his entourage reached the venue, they were turned away by a police officer who felt that Mavado had too many men with him, so Mavado and crew turned around and went back to the bus. Mavado was accompanied by 6 men.

One of the promoters said that this could have been solved since all the men had different duties and at a meeting prior to the event, everyone knew of their duties.

WorldFLavas.com tried to contact Mavado's management, but we were unable to get a direct quote, however, Julian Jones (Mavado's management) told the Star that it was over money.

D's Pyksz 001wtmk.jpg WorldFlavas Radio was blessed to have Mega Banton passed through the studio last week.

The Mega Banton I remembered was the one from the 90's when "Soundboy killing" became an international hit, but as the years passed it seems as if his presence in the music arena was on and off.

After speaking with him he clarified that he chose to be on and off on the scene, as to not make himself stale or a regular on all riddims. He has been working behind the scenes with different artist, and as oppose to quantity, Mega Banton chose quality and therefore voiced to his chosing.

D's Pyksz 122wtmk.jpgSaturday October 18th 2008 WorldFlavas attended G-Man birthday Bash at Marcus Hall in Queens, NY.

Hiawondah, Jesse jendah, Dimon and Sensation of Rising Star, Blade and Liberator were all scheduled to perform.

The venue was packed and the patrons all in great mood until "Side Block" sound system took over the music. If it wasn't for Father G-Man showing us so much love, I would have left the crime scene right away. The sound system killed music as I know it. From there after it seemed as the music could not be resuscitated until WorldFlavas Radio own "Mentally Madness" took over and breathed life in the venue.

They renewed my faith in good music and good showmanship (see pics), all was good until someone that calls himself Joe Young "The voice of Queens" decided that the dance was all about him and he would make the rules.

I always love when an artist really appreciates music and is not afraid of trying something new.

Not only did Demarco joined forces with one of France's biggest name "Booba", but now Busy Signal recorded the track "Danse pour moi ( Dance for me) " with Booba and rapper "Mala". The track will be featured on Mala's upcoming album and as soon as I get my hands on it, I will make sure to share it with you. I wonder if they sing/DJ in French?

gypt.jpgWorldFlavas Team attended the Gyptian Album release party at Club Element in NY. The even was put on by Rhona Fox inc, and it was GREAT!

The choice of the venue was perfect and the media and patrons were in full force for this preview of the anticipated album "I can feel your Pain".

NYC was cold and freezing on that night, and to warm everyone's blood, Rhona Fox had many treats in store for all of us.

Everyone was very excited as a belly dancer took the stage with fire, and dazzled all with her sensual moves, backed by the music of DJ Maya.

We were also all entertained by the music of sounds, such as King Addies, DJ Max Glazer, Livity Movement and many more.

Around midnight Gyptian took the stage, accompanied by a guitar player and had the crowd in a frenzy from the beginning as he belted out "Serious Times".

Hit after hit, from "Beautiful Lady, Mama" to his #1 Single from the new Album of the same name "I can feel your pain". Gyptian gave the crowd a piece of him that night, and I for one have a new found admiration for this singer, his voice sounds the same Live on stage as he does on recording, and his new album is now part of my collection.

R&B superstar Ne-Yo will be coming to theaters soon as he prepares to both star and executive produce the upcoming romantic film Venice Beach.

According to Reuters, the Def Jam hit maker will play the role of a gifted musician who helps inspire a young female that gives up on her dream of becoming a singer. Coming from Venice Beach, Ne-Yo begins a love-based relationship with the Manhattan Beach 18 year-old, as the two begin their quest for musical careers facing both resistance and disapproval from friends and family.

In addition to the film's production, the platinum-selling crooner will also be penning the soundtrack as Duane Adler begins writing the script. Ne-Yo last worked with Adler in 2007's Save the Last Dance 2. While a director has yet to be announced, recent talks hint at Paul Hunter taking the position. Aside from directing 2003's Bulletproof Monk, Hunter has also directed music videos for major artists including Eminem, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Marilyn Manson.

The upcoming film will mark Ne-Yo's first major starring role as he has only appeared in two films beginning last year including the dance-based flick Stomp The Yard.

What is noticeable however, is that while you will hear Aidonia's fast tempo rhymes, he is absent from the video.

The video, which was shot in 2006, depicts a dating game show where contestant CeCile must choose between two bachelors both played by Sanjay. Sanjay 1, dressed in a cap and a pink & white polo, plays the role of the romantic bachelor, who insists that he knows that girls like a more romantic lover. While Sanjay 2, dressed in a green T-Shirt, portrays the more hard core Jamaican bachelor, the role originally to be played by Aidonia who was absent from the shoot.

Boom Steppa.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

Who would of though that in the midst of a crisis in Jamaica where children as young as 7 months are being sexually abused and murdered that a young up and coming artists would lead the charge in speaking out about the issue.

Dancehall artiste Boom Steppa from the Pay Day Music camp is angry and on his latest single "Protect The Children" displays passion and strength with a keen underlined message of protecting and ensuring the safety of our youths because they are the future of Jamaica. Steppa who has been on his musically journey for some time now has had periods of success in the past but will no doubt get his credits for this new song that has been turning heads everywhere.

The song is powerful and once played can only go on repeat as it soon become addictive. Props to the producer Kevin Austin who crafts a deeply inspiring rhythm track called Merge.

Since September a number of children have gone missing, with many winding up murdered and raped yet the dancehall community has been fairly quiet on the issue until now.

Teflon Says "Jail House Rock"

Teflon.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

Dont get it twisted but it seems for most artists a visit to the penitentiary or jail house always calm the meds and allows them to come back with some strong musical content. Teflon who recently had his woos with the law is now on bail and out the studio is his new song "Jail House Rock".

The song which has a catchy groovy vibes sees Teflon putting his best foot forward speaking of his life behind iron bars. among other things the deejays slews lines of "It nuh pretty behind bars". Not afraid to tell the full story Teflon dives into the experiences of not being able to enjoy his freedom.

"three day mi nuh eat, all mi belly empty, mi so called friends dem neva help me, mi remember all di days the sun a pelt me, times when money inna me wallet but now it empty".

Other deejays like Aidonia have displayed similar characteristics in songs recorded after being release from incarceration. Donia recorded "Jail Story" shortly after being released from jail and the song was deemed one of his most profound songs while Vybz Kartel who recently was release from jail has a similar success with his prison single.

Aidonia Is Back - Hot Grabba

AIDONIA 2.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

Fresh off a heavily dose of daggering, hardcore dancehall deejay Sheldon Lawrence better known as Aidonia is back to his old tricks flipping Sharpe lyrics over some dark and equally aggressive riddim tracks.

Donia who has been keeping his presence in mainstream dancehall by release a number of song has been blazing the local and international airwaves with tunes like "Bruise It" and "Flying Dagger" but will soon be repping on a different level based on some new singles currently coming out the lab.

"War Time Now" which was produced by TJ on the Beauty & The Beast Riddim is one of Aidonia's latest releases and based on initial feedback the song is nothing short of a hit. Another bubbler being rotated and shared on website forums is "Hot Grabba" which was produced by Equiknoxx. The track finds Donia kicking some knowledge about the pros of Marijuana.

Easily one of dancehall's most gifted artists Aidonia has seen his share of setback but has proved his competitive ability by having a constant catalog of hits always in rotation.

Holding nothing back reggae recording artiste Etana is delving into her creativity and is stepping out with a number of new singles for the Christmas. With two releases during the month of September namely "Badmind" and "How It Goes" Etana is again introducing another single this time for ace producer Shane Brown on his Jukeboxx Label. The song simply dubbed "Loose Talking" takes on the issue of idle conversing that many people often indulge in on a daily basis. Etana who is known for inspiring positivity amongst the youth exposes her intense side and wastes no time in pointing out the bad vibes singing. "What mek you chat so much gibberish, mount mussy have diarrhea keep talking sh*t, why you keep siting on people business, while yours is spoil rotten and needs to be fixed".

Easily one her most decisive songs "Loose Talking" speaks to a direct issue and unlike "Roots"
or any of her other militant tracks is not coated with sub thoughts on similar problems its simply about as she says in her intro "people who have nothing progressive to say".

Etana who will be traveling to the Bahamas at the end of the month is current running a Fan Club sweepstakes Competition along with the Star which allows persons to submit entries to win a trip to the island with her.

Kanye West ALL SINGING NO RAPPING

nye.jpg Kanye West had a listening party in Los Angeles for his new album "808s & Heartbreak", and according to Fader magazine the entire album is singing, yes I said it right ALL SINGING.

The only rapping on the album is a duet with "Lil Wayne", and another with "Young Jeezy". Now, I don't know if you are familiar with his newly released single "Love Lockdown", people either love it or hate it, I happen to love it, but an entire album of Kanye singing, I'm not sure how I feel about it.

As a matter of fact, most of the songs are done "at la T- Pain", meaning he uses that "autotune/vocoder".

"Tjenbe Red" also demands that the promoters "Mediacom" assure that any Reggae artist they schedule thereafter sign the act.

According to Honda the V4 Concept Model represents "the new beginning" for the brand's production motorcycles. Conceived around the trademark 4-cylinder V-engine, the V4 Concept Model "expresses functional beauty as well as a more sensual image to appeal more to the emotions of people." Among the concepts behind the V4 Concept model are an increased focus on emotional and sensual performance and on the human-fitting match of rider and machine.

50 Cent and Clarence

50 Cent made his debut as a director in a very smart way, not only will his album probably sell off because of this, but the movie will definitely put him on the map as a serious director.

Call it a brilliant marketing move, but on 50 next album due out Dec 9th, not only will Eminem and Dr.Dre join him on the album, but "Before I self destruct" will include a feature-length movie about an inner city boy named Clarence who sets to avenge the death of his mother.

50 Cent wrote, directed and starred in the film. "My film captures the harsh realities that reflect so many communities today," 50 Cent says statement. "There will be some who will greatly identify with the characters and the situations presented and then there will be others who may be shocked at the struggles that go on in the inner city. I made the film for both groups."

malaika.jpgMalaika please help me,

I have been with my man for a while now and I am not in love with him anymore, the thing is we have a great relationship, we laugh and play a lot, we go out, we have all the same friends, really we are friends more than man and woman.

I can't even complain and say that he treats me bad or cheats, he is very generous and spoils me like a princess, but there is no passion. I don't even want to kiss him, let alone have sex with him.

I don't know what to do because I can't say that I have a good reason to end it, it's just that I fell out of love with him at some point, and now I want more. This is not even about someone else, I just want more. What should I do, should I stay since he treats me so good?

Jamaican Booted Off Paris Hilton's Reality Show

So Useless but somewhat entertaining Paris Hilton has a show on TV, the object of this "reality" show is to find Paris a new best friend. The latest BFF to be eliminated is Jamaican born (Ocho Rios) Baje Fletcher.

Now this is my issue with her, she says "Hilton is simply `looking for puppets that she can control, and this `sista` actually has a mind of her own." "Most of them acted like overgrown kids and just got on my nerves -- if I didn`t separate from the circus clowns, I would have lost my temper many times. I thought coming on the show would have showed me a different side of life, but it didn`t. I shop, travel and party with the best of them daily."

So if this is how you feel, why were you on the show in the first place? I am sure you knew enough about Paris Hilton, whatever, you are sore because you got the boot, that's all!

So I haven't been talking to much about this new reality tv show on VH-1, partly because until I saw the previews I refuse to believe it, but of course just as New York got her spin off from Flava Flav, real and chance get theirs off I love New York. So the story is the same, Real and Chance are looking for love, what shocked me is that the contestants are women, but rumors are going around that one of the lady is really a man, now that makes sense. Anyways, of course I will be tuning in, after all, no one can turn their head away from a train wreck.

Artist on the brink - OVERMARZ

Overmarz dapperwtmk.JPGLet me tell you a secret about myself, I LOVEEEEEEEEE DANCING, and everything associated with it. My friends and I even take great pleasure in just buying DVD's and watching the crowd move, and when the one song comes on, with the just the right moves, we will be up in the living room learning the steps.

Such a song, and such a dancer has the world of Dancehall in a craze right now, his name is Overmarz, and yes if you google him you will see different deviation of his name, but they all point to the man who brought us the "Raging Bull" craze, OVERMARS.

From the Ravers Clavers Dance crew, Marlon "Overmarz" Hardy has emerged. From a young age his talent to entertain the crowd was obvious and from this came such dances as, "Conquer Dem, Kiki, Virus Spin, Elderly Dip, Raging Bull" and the #1 Hit single and Dance Move "FOOTLOOSE".

The transition from dancer to entertainer was an obvious one for Overmarz, who by the way was nicknamed Overmarz for his admiration to a European Football player. It seemed that every song Overmarz heard on the dance floor spoke to him and the steps just created themselves...

Family members of legendary reggae/rocksteady singer, Alton Ellis, say the singer, who has been battling cancer for several months, is not doing well.

Speaking with The Star last night from the United Kingdom, Clive Ellis, one of Alton's sons, revealed that the family was not very optimistic as it relates to Alton surviving the fight with the disease. "We can't say we are hoping for the best in this situation. The family is looking for the worst," Clive said regretfully. "He is gasping for air. He is not talking, he is not moving, I don't think he is going to come out on top of this fight." Clive said the family was still trying to keep strong in these difficult times.

beyonceandjayz.jpgFinally!!!!!!!!!

We all know that Jay Z and Beyonce were married but they never publicly admit it, as a matter of fact, they never even admitted dating, but in the November Essence issue, she opens up about her secret wedding.

She says that "she is not a traditional woman" and that is one of the reason that they kept the wedding small and at Jay Z's penthouse in Manhattan. She adds, "It's been my day so many days already."

Despite being engaged, she never confirmed rumors or wore a ring.

"People put too much emphasis on that," says the singer, whose new album drops Nov. 18. "It's just material, and it's just silly to me."

(Instead, the couple have matching IV tattoos on their ring fingers. They were each born on the fourth day of a month - Beyonce on September 4; Jay Z December 4. They wed on April 4.)

Nature.jpgMeet reggae artiste, Nature.

Born Andre Obrien Ellis in Montego Bay, Jamaica, this young musical warrior asserts that it is the music that chose him and not vice versa as is most times the case. "I have always loved music and therefore I can only say it is truly in my blood and therefore it is only natural that I pursue this musical path," he muses.

This past student of the Montego Bay high School in St James, notes that his first taste of the stage and the joys which a powerful performance can give, came from a talent competition at his alma mater back in 2002, where he won the singing category of the contest.

Nature stresses  that despite diverting from his musical path for a short while for a job in the tourism industry, the seed was firmly planted in music from that magical moment at the high school talent competition. Therefore it was only at time before 'nature' would take its course and this seed would ultimately germinate and he earnestly looks forward to due season when he can reap the fruits.

Hosted by popular radio personalities Dahved Levy of New York's WBLS, and Road Block Radio's Banky Hype and Greng Greng, the 'Gangsta fi Life' Mavado will launch his assault on Elizabeth On Sunday, October 26th, with his band of lyrical terrorists out of the Alliance camp. Slated to be one of Elizabeth's highly anticipated, if not unusual, events, organizer Casey 'G City' Rankine is confident that such an unprecedented move is exactly what the genre needs. Who says the gully can't do the Ritz," G City jokingly questions, before seriously stating that "Dancehall Reggae is one of the most popular musical genres in the world. Our musical culture has influenced language, dance, and fashion across the globe.

It is high time that we step it up a few notches, and present our artists in the style and manner befitting to world-class artists." LOS ANGELES - The unlikely stars of Ice Cube's new video are the grieving relatives of a 17-year-old high school football star who was shot to death outside his home. The song "Why Me?" speaks out against senseless violence and gun crime devastating communities. Cube says Jamiel Shaw Jr.'s family is a powerful illustration of the pain that lingers after a murder. "It just was a tragic, tragic story of why," Cube says. "Young people are dying for no reason all over the world that don't know why. It's ugly, everywhere."

n-cole.jpgLOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Natalie Cole has been released from the hospital in New York and is now back home, Access Hollywood has confirmed. The legendary songstress was hospitalized last month after falling ill due to the effects of chemotherapy, which was being used to combat liver disease from Hepatitis C. But after two weeks in the hospital, Cole is finally back home -- however, her treatment continues.

"Natalie is in Los Angeles and is receiving kidney dialysis," a rep for the singer told Access. "This is totally unrelated to her Hepatitis C, which is under control."

Bermuda.jpgBeyonce braved mother nature to perform at the Bermuda Festival.

She sang her heart out for 2 hours in the rain from her Destiny's Child days to the Diva we now know simply as BEYONCE!

She was paid 1 million dollars and you know what? I'm not mad at her, her sister Solange was also in attendance and also performed, and announce to the media that she wrote one of the songs for her sister's new album.

Beyonce's 2 new single will hit the radio airwaves on Oct 14th and videos were already filmed. I can't wait to see it, and I promise to post it a.s.a.p

After days of preliminary knockout competition Etana yesterday chose the three winners of her Dance Competition which was organized as part of the Star Newspaper Artist for the month of September. Held at the Phillip Serlock Center on the grounds of UWI a number of college students came out to see the strong one as she and her panel of judges which included Michael Holgate, Kameica Reid, Renardo Lewis and Onaje Bell watched presentations from the finalists.

From the get go there were a number of crowd favorites which included Fyah and Kelly Ann Robinson who displayed great dancing and choreography technique not to mention stage presence. Members of the audience were also invited to participate in the last section of the finals which entailed learning a new peice to one of Etana's album tracks and with some enthusiasm several people came on stage and gave it their best effort.

IMG_1354.JPG"What does that mean" is the repeated question a number of persons have been asking about the symbols on the WorldFlavas.com T Shirts and so we thought it was time to let everybody know what it represents and why.

The symbols are actually Japanese literature which translates to WorldFlavas and it represents the connection our website has with the Japanese dancehall / reggae market. At present WorldFlavas.com is complimented by WorldFlavasRadio.com which is our web-based radio station that features disc jocks from around the world, places like Canada, U.K, St. Kitts and of course New York.

Based in Japan DJ Soma is one of our most rated disc jocks who has been blazing the airwaves every Sunday bringing with him a sizable Japanese online community of people who are pro dancehall. In essence our tag-line "Uniting The World Through Music" represents our vision of breaking down language and other barrier in music and so we thought it fit to cater to everybody, thus the symbols.

I always say that money comes in endorsements, and I am right. The latest celeb to take it on is Big Boi of Outcast.

He will be the new "Urban" spokesperson for Coca Cola new energy drink "Full Throttle".

I have yet to taste it but am looking forward to it if they have it in sugar free. If Red Bulls gives you wings, what does Full Throttle gives you? *wink*

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) -- A Jamaican judge has cleared Grammy-winning musician Beenie Man of tax-evasion charges, saying the government never informed him of his legal rights.

Jamaican authorities have said the singer and rapper owed nearly US$1 million in overdue taxes.

But Judge Owen Parkin threw out the case Tuesday, ruling evidence showed the entertainer was not informed of his rights when auditors issued their assessment last year.

The singer's real name is Anthony Moses Davis. The Kingston native has been one of the biggest names in dancehall music for a decade. In 2001, he won a Grammy for his album "Art and Life."
