Video - Bomboclut - Chameleone feat Weasel

I am in a real WorldFlavas mood today, and that is why I am bringing some love from Africa. In the documentary posted on Reggae in Africa, someone mentioned the artist "Chameleone". I did a little research on him, from his myspace, to what Wikipedia had to say about him. (read below or click on text).

Joseph Mayanja (born 1979) is a hip hop and ragga musician from Uganda, known for his stage name Jose Chameleone or just as Chameleone or Chameleon. He started his career in the late 90's affiliated to Ogopa DJs record label from Kenya. One of his first songs was "Bageya", featuring Redsan, a Kenyan artist. He also collaborated with fellow Ugandan Bebe Cool, but later the two are known to have a tense rivalry.

I absolutely adore this video, the beat, the voice, the riddim, the flava! Thanks UGPulse.

Exile Pic.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

Known to friends as Nago 25 year old Clayton Johnson better known as Exile was born and raised in Naggo's Head, Portmore and has managed to create his own mark on the music business in only a short space of time.

The former Camperdown High School student just won't stop working on his musical craft. After leaving high school in 1999, he started exploring his talent and started to rap as the hip hop genre took a big step in the Jamaican culture. Since then his talent has grown into different styles and technique. Having recently graduated from the University Of Technology in Jamaica he has drawn more closer to Jamaica's own reggae dancehall music, which was the first music he had come to know.

Bringing across the same sharp lyrics and melodies from hip hop and transforming them in Jamaican Creole (patios). He is now a reggae dancehall artist on the underground scene and planning to see the top with his latest hot singles such as (CLIMAX, COMING HOME SOON, CONTRACT, RUN UP AND DOWN) with all these songs has story telling to match any situation, he writes songs for whatever stages life can take one through. For the years to come the music industry and the world will see more from this raw talent, a diamond in the dust, he's a force to recon with.

Overmarz dapperwtmk.JPGLet me tell you a secret about myself, I LOVEEEEEEEEE DANCING, and everything associated with it. My friends and I even take great pleasure in just buying DVD's and watching the crowd move, and when the one song comes on, with the just the right moves, we will be up in the living room learning the steps.

Such a song, and such a dancer has the world of Dancehall in a craze right now, his name is Overmarz, and yes if you google him you will see different deviation of his name, but they all point to the man who brought us the "Raging Bull" craze, OVERMARS.

From the Ravers Clavers Dance crew, Marlon "Overmarz" Hardy has emerged. From a young age his talent to entertain the crowd was obvious and from this came such dances as, "Conquer Dem, Kiki, Virus Spin, Elderly Dip, Raging Bull" and the #1 Hit single and Dance Move "FOOTLOOSE".

The transition from dancer to entertainer was an obvious one for Overmarz, who by the way was nicknamed Overmarz for his admiration to a European Football player. It seemed that every song Overmarz heard on the dance floor spoke to him and the steps just created themselves...

Nature.jpgMeet reggae artiste, Nature.

Born Andre Obrien Ellis in Montego Bay, Jamaica, this young musical warrior asserts that it is the music that chose him and not vice versa as is most times the case. "I have always loved music and therefore I can only say it is truly in my blood and therefore it is only natural that I pursue this musical path," he muses.

This past student of the Montego Bay high School in St James, notes that his first taste of the stage and the joys which a powerful performance can give, came from a talent competition at his alma mater back in 2002, where he won the singing category of the contest.

Nature stresses  that despite diverting from his musical path for a short while for a job in the tourism industry, the seed was firmly planted in music from that magical moment at the high school talent competition. Therefore it was only at time before 'nature' would take its course and this seed would ultimately germinate and he earnestly looks forward to due season when he can reap the fruits.

Plugz started behind the board, but after hearing alot of music without substance and quality and good lyrics, the natural thing for him to do was to enter the booth and start recording quality music.

Music to Plugz is a way of life, to him it's just as necessary as air. water and good sex. He tries to teach through his music because he know that people actually listen and follow the lyrics they hear at times in songs.

Artist on the Brink: Introducing HIAWONDAH

It is not very often that I meet someone and within the first sight I just know that he is destined for greatness.

Hiawondah is the "Garrison DJ". I had the pleasure of speaking with him on WorldFlavas Radio, Hiawondah came to the studio with his crew, all looking very laid back, and with a strong swagger.

As this was our first meeting, I wanted to know all about him, and I was not disappointed. He is REAL, no pretense, no fakeness, all real, but what did it for me was THE VOICE. His smoothness, his delivery, his tone mesmerized me, I actually had to go back and listen to the show again. Ladies, besides the fact that he is so handsome (you should see the eyes), he was also a gentleman and all the ladies in the studio had a crush. Respected by his peers, Hiwondah blend of conscious and real life lyrics, his life, and struggle makes an instant connection with his fans. They really feel as if he is one of them.

Hiawondah is no newcomer in this industry, he has performed on so many stages, and his showmanship has him in constant demand.

According to his myspace,

tashina.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

Tashina McKenzie's middle name is probably determination. The Libra born, petite 19-year old singing beauty is determined to take our Reggae music and mix it up with a little singjay and a little dj and a little hip hop flavour and come up with something really good, a new flavour that shows how diverse our music can be or should be internationally. Tashina, whose favourite singers include Whitney Houston, Mariah Carrey and Toni Braxton, Diana King, Lady Saw, Tami Chynn and Alaine is a graduate of St. Andrew Technical High School and also you might say of the Digicel Rising Stars competition.

In 2007 she made it into the list of top 10 finalists in this popular entertainment show, no mean feat in this country of singing superstars and wannabees. Tashina's long-held fantasy of becoming a singing star nearly came crashing down with her bruised ego after being eliminated from the top 5 of the Digicel Rising Stars contest but she held on till the bitter end putting on a winning performance at the final concert that attracted the attention of one of the most respected music producers of the business, Mikie Bennett. It has been a long and rocky journey for this young girl from the inner city who loved singing so much that she just sang when she was tired, sang when she was happy, and sang when she was sad.

Tafari2.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

TAFARI (whose name means "Fearless One") was born in Kingston Jamaica to mother Joan Porteous and Reggae legendary artist Big Youth. Because of his fathers ability to create classic reggae songs and albums at a time when reggae music was grabbing major headlines worldwide, Tafari and his other siblings at an early age understood and enjoyed the life of an artist/musician.

Following in the footsteps of Big Youth was the norm as Tafari and his brother Isat Buchannan decided to pursue a career in music as they were also blessed with a god given talent to see the world and interpret it through rhyme. Since entering the business as a teenager, Tafari has collaborated with some of Jamaica's popular Dancehall Giants such as Wayne Wonder, Lady Saw, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel and R&B singer/songwriter Jimmy Cozier.

Tafari's newest collaboration features Junior Reid on a song titled "No Stoppin". In addition to his list of musical collaborations, Tafari has two songs synched and placed on the soundtrack of Academy Award-nominated Director/Film Writer/Producer John Singleton's newest film, "Illegal Tender". Braving criticisms and living up to his powerful birth name "fearless one" Tafari has branded himself as one of the few Hip/Hop Reggae artist in an industry reluctant to experiment with the genre. Tafari has teamed with in-house producers Hit Depot to create a sound that fuses Reggae, Hip/Hop, and R&B further laying stake to his "own" sound. Tafari's stage show experience is expansive as he has toured the world with father Big Youth, appearing on gigs all across the United States, Europe and most recently Argentina, performing in front of a crowd of 20,000 at the Pepsi Fest 2007.

DNS.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

It may sound like a new artist cliche but believe it or not many successful artists today have practiced and some perfected their musical talents while in the church and like those that came before up and coming Dancehall Duo Dohlance & Saylah is making the most of their past Sunday performances.

Born Norwayne Hills, Dohlance and his lyrical partner David Reynolds better known as Saylah has been campaigning the road many new artists have had to travel and despite the numerous obstacles have continued to forge ahead. The Duo which officially started to work together in 2002 after a chance meeting pay homage to different communities as Dohlance hails from Trelawny and Saylah from Mavis Bank, St. Andrew but once united make no mistake they both represent the energy in present day Dancehall.

At 24 Dohlance is the older of the duo and has always aspired to be in the music industry. A passionate lover of the sounds Dohlance began studying via the drums and keyboard the melody and rhymes of music, this later developed his ability as a songwriter. Back then his shyness would often cloud his ambitions but this was short lived as the support from family and friends gave his confidence the boost it needed to persist, and that he did carving his own path until Saylah came along. At 21 Saylah was influenced in his early years by the super prolific Sizzla Kalonji and the Dancehall governor & general Bounty Killer.

bugle13.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

Roy Thompson a.k.a. Bugle was born in Portland, Jamaica. His fledgling love affair with music began as early as in primary school however, this affair never matured until the birth of the new millennium when he met dancehall recording artiste Oniel Bryan a.k.a. Elephant Man in 2000.

He was then ushered into the dancehall fraternity when he was asked to write for Elephant Man, this soon materialize into tours and shows in the U.S and Canada which allowed the easy going deejay to meet international superstars like Janet Jackson and Pharrell. In 2005, Bugle met Shawn Scott, CEO of Shawn Scott Music Group (SSMG) under whose auspices he stayed for one year. However, the clipped wings of music must be emancipated for Bugle to truly echo his story in song...At the midstream of time Bugle severed the ties with SSMG and in mid 2007 Bugle embraced the musical oasis that DASECA Productions represents. DASECA a triad team of young producers lead by the melodic Serani committed to fostering freedom of musical expression whilst ensuring that the human face of music is nourished.  As the spotlight parts the darkness the black wings of Bugle's musical soul pierces the silence as he emerges singing "What We Gonna Do?" (Exercise) the anthem of his emancipation, a song that resonated in the streets on Kingston for months on ends. As the spotlight focus on Dancehall's newest sensation the dancehall fraternity known for "one hit wonders" waited patiently too see if Bugle could compete and that he did launching out the sequel to the debut single, a song called  "Journeys".

Esco / Da Shocker - Artist On The Brink

Esco.jpg

(Kingston, Jamaica)

For years Leftside & Esco have been Reggae's ultimate musical duo within Dancehall as selectors turned producers and recording artists. After an amicable decision last year to peruse solo careers, Esco da Shocker has been busy laying a solid foundation for his future. Taking to the studio to deliver a slew of diverse material showcasing well rounded recordings over productions on traditional reggae beats, pulsating dancehall all the way to Soca tracks has been Esco's single-minded focus the last year. Further, continuing his class act in production history, Esco has established a brand new company/label imprint, 1-1-1 Productions.

As the son of veteran Jamaican disc jockey, Errol 'ET' Thompson (former Wailers backing singer, Marcia Griffiths is his step-mom), Esco (Matthew Thompson) is the product of a major reggae bloodline. Esco's own production credits included co-produced material on nearly every big rhythm to come out of Jamaica such as the Dem Time Deh and the Bullet Riddim collection among others. Key hits recorded with former partner in musical madness included charting favorites; "Tuk In Yuh Belly" and "Wine Up Pon Har". The newly formed 1-1-1 Productions has already allowed Esco to focus on new Riddim projects. Esco premiered his talents with the 'one off' track "Drunken Dance", followed by "Badman Skank" for Future Fambo.

Accid - Artist On The Brink

Acid 2.jpg(Kingston, Jamaica)

Before he became the local hero in his Annotto Bay community of St. Mary dancehall recording artiste Accid was like the average youth living in Jamaica, he had big dreams but little or no resources to jump start his goals.

Born Oniel Waker Acid got his introduction to music at a young age growing up in a family of artists and music lovers. "My mom was a deejay and singer back in the days and my father use to have a component music system is the yard and people like Ninja Man and Determine use to DJ tune on the spot". Back then Acid's mind was curious about the dancehall genre and it's hardcore nature, this as a result of the admiration he had  for the now veterans Bounty Killer & Beenie Man who at the time was running the music scene.

As destiny would have it Acid got hooked to music, weeks on end he would search his thoughts to come up with catch phrases and thought provoking lyrics, a task he managed to maintain while attending the Annotto Bay All Age School during the early 1990's. He recorded his very first single "English" on the Static Riddim for Rainbow Castle Productions back in 2004 and shot a video shortly afterwards. After school Acid went on to test the dancehall waters by entering a number of contests and deejay competitions one of which he got first place honors for being most lyrical in they year 2000. As time elapsed Acid began recording more and more singles. Songs like "Number One" which gave props to all the artists without a top single, "Life not fair" and "Mek No Sense" all served as good samples for the bigger buss which was soon to come.

In 2007 Acid dedicated his focus as an artist towards performing at more stage shows and managed to gain a significant number of forwards at Follow Di Arrow, Capleton's show St. Mary Mi Come From and the annual Bling Dawg Summer Jam event. More recently he appeared at the St. Mary Agricultural Show and like a true up-comer had the crown hanging on his every word. As 2008 move towards the busy summer season Acid is now stepping up his level of awareness and promotion. A member of both Solid Sounds based in Atlanta which is headed by Desmond Shirley and PayDay Music Productions based locally and run by Austin "Kevin" Green he's release new singles such as "Run Di Place" on the Richie's Riddim for PayDay Music, "Wine For Me" and "What A Piece of Armageddon" a track Acid believes is gonna get alot of rotation based on its content. "Armageddon is a song that speaking about what's happening in the world now so I think people will connect easily with that one".

Bringing his own unique type of creativity to the music Acid says he has no intentions of turning back. "Well people can expect the best from Acid, alot of messages, i have always said music was my calling so i'm gonna stick with it, and right now me get the chance to bring it to more so i'm gonna continue doing that. Its my career, its my future".
