kenya.jpgKenya declared a national holiday after Barack Obamas election as the first black U.S. president, to commemorate the fact his father was born in the African country, Agence France-Presse reported. ``This is a momentous day not only in the history of the United States of America, but also for us in Kenya,'' President Mwai Kibaki said in a statement, according to AFP. ``The victory of Senator Obama is our own victory because of his roots here in Kenya. As a country, we are full of pride for his success.'' Obama's father, Barack Obama Sr., was born in Kenya and left the president-elect's mother two years after his son was born. Obama met him once after that and his father died in a car accident in 1982. Obama's first book was titled ``Dreams From My Father.'' Source: Bloomberg News

McCainObama.jpgI was heart broken yesterday when I was talking with someone close to me who can vote, and told me he is not sure if he was going to vote today.
I was speechless. Today out of all the days, is what matters, history will be made, and our lives will be changed. How could he not vote?

I wanted to scream and cry, but calmly I explained to him that if he doesn't make his vote count, he could never "bitch" about the war, economics, politics, etc..

I hope that that he understood the importance of this election and voted. PLEASE GO OUT AND VOTE!!!

nicole-and-lewis.jpgLewis Hamilton seen here with girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger "Pussy Cat Dolls", is the first black man and the youngest to win Formula 1 Championship.

According to AP:

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) -- Lewis Hamilton of McLaren became Formula One's youngest champion on Sunday, making a pass on the final turn of the last lap to finish fifth in the Brazilian Grand Prix and win the title by one point over Felipe Massa.

Ferrari's Massa won the race in front of his home crowd, but it wasn't enough to erase the seven-point lead Hamilton held entering the season-ending race.

Just one year after Hamilton lost the title by one point after starting the final race with a seven-point lead over eventual champion Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari, the 23-year-old Briton passed Toyota's Timo Glock on the last lap to win the championship. Fernando Alonso was 24 when he won the title in 2005 for Renault.

In Senegal, Hip-Hop Artists Have Gained Exceptional Political Influence.

In a country where journalists are banned from saying or writing what they want, hip-hop artists have stepped up to speak for those who can't.

Moussa Lo, a.k.a. Waterflow, is one of Senegal's most famous hip-hop artists.

He said he became a hip-hop singer not for success or his own glory, but to be "the voice of the voiceless."

"Hip-hop in Africa needs to grow," Waterflow told ABC News, "because we are the journalists for the people."

While Senegal's daily papers praise the government's action - new roads being built for a recent summit, urban renovations -- Waterflow denounces the corruption and the poverty that plague his country.

"Most people," he said, "the masses, don't have everything they [need] to live a normal life. They don't have running water, often they don't have electricity."

With more than 2,500 groups that enjoy increasing popularity, the hip-hop scene has gained exceptional political influence.

spragga01.jpgThis still pains my heart and I knew that more would come from it. According to the news from Jamaica, Spragga Benz in now requesting an independant inquest in the death of his son.

"I want to bring in three or four independent coroners to oversee the post mortem. We need to recreate what happened through eyewitness reports and whatever clues may be out there, but I have not hired a private investigator" he told X News from Jamaica.

Seems as the community and Spragga will not let this killing be unresolved like so many others. The mother of Carlton Jr says "My son is not a bad man, evreybody around here know him. The police just saw a yute on a bicycle, and dem kill him and when dem find out who he is, dem ah try cover dem tracks,mi nah done wd dem".

All in all, a son was lost, he had a promising future ahead of him, he will be missed by all. Spragga says that his son was about to have a part in a movie directed by Cess Silvera (director of Shottas) with Queen Latifah, and that when Cess called him to offer his condolences he cried so much that Spragga had to comfot him.

Seventeen (17) year old Carlton Grant Jr. more popularly known as 'Carlie', son of veteran dancehall artiste Spragga Benz (Carlton Grant Sr.) was killed by the Police in Downtown Kingston this morning.

We understands that he was he was last seen alive riding a bicycle, wearing a mesh marino and shorts heading to a party with a some friends in the downtown area where his mother resides. In the earlier hours of Sunday morning a few persons said they heard several shots being fired intermittently followed by a break then one single shot.

jr.jpg Eyewitness accounts said when the young man was accosted by the Police he placed his hands in the air before being shot the first time. One ardent resident of downtown said after that occurred there was a break while a Police officer stood over him and proceeded to shoot him a second time, clearly with the intent to kill.

The residents said they then threw his body in the back of a police vehicle and drove him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. When asked by the residents, who were adamant that the teen was unharmed. The Police claimed he was killed because he was found with an illegal firearm. However when they asked to see the weapon no evidence was forthcoming. Spragga Benz was reportedly in New York at the time of his son's death but his mother was present at the Hospital. The teen before meeting his demise, had a bright future ahead of him being the recipient of five (5) subject passes in the recent CXC examinations.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Richard Hicks granted Alexis Miller's request Thursday after reviewing her allegations that the basketball player stalked her, threatened her with bodily harm and made harassing phone calls in which he breathed heavily into the phone before hanging up.

Miller, a 23-year-old hip-hop artist known professionally as Maryjane, claimed she ended an intimate relationship with O'Neal last month. She alleged he then threatened to pay performers $50,000 each not to work with her.

"It's been very difficult for her," said L. David Wolfe, Miller's Atlanta-based attorney. "Her fears are not only for herself but also the people around her." He said Miller, who has a young son, is "pretty traumatized."

Premier League football and NBA basketball may be the sports that the locals watch most on television, but they know that when it comes to making their own mark on international sport it is sprinting that is number one. jamaicaarmy.jpg

LONDON: The British Army says it is considering a recruitment drive in Jamaica as it struggles to find enough soldiers to meet its international commitments.

The military says it is weighing whether to send an Army "overseas selection team" to Jamaica. The Caribbean country is a former British colony and remains a part of the Commonwealth.

The military has had difficulty recruiting and retaining soldiers as it maintains its deployment in Iraq and engages a resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan.

The Army said in a statement Sunday that it is proud to recruit soldiers from countries with close historical ties to Britain.

The British military already employs some 600 Jamaican soldiers. They are among about 12,000 foreign and Commonwealth personnel who serve in its armed forces.
